Britta and Rachel have been friends for 30 years and counting. Through their love of the wild aspects of nature, magic, and an unbridled thirst for knowledge, science and research, it only made sense to create Fern & Fog Apothecary to share with all of you.
Fern & Fog Apothecary lies at the intersection where the science of herbalism and the magic of the natural world meet. We are unapologetically neurodivergent, queer, and purposefully and intentionally inclusive and want to empower each of our community members along their own herby, witchy journey.
Born and raised in the PNW, Britta spent her childhood climbing trees, making potions with edible wild plants, falling off rocks and bikes, and climbing mountains. They recognized the wild buzzing magic in the great outdoors, where the sky brushes the earth, at an early age.
A geologist, avid outdoor enthusiast, and esoteric and herbal wanderer, science driven, and open-hearted, they fell head over heels into tarot, oracle, herbalism, and nature-centered craft, and haven't looked back once.
Britta lives in the PNW with her partner and dog, and thrives in the weird zone.
"To be whole. To be complete. Wildness reminds us what it means to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from."―Terry Tempest Williams
Rachel always knew plants were wonderful. Growing up she spent a great deal of time outdoors exploring, making potions, and learning about life and nature. Some of this wonder was lost to time and she is coming back to herself and rediscovering the magic in the world. This reawakening has fueled the shift into herbalism and exploring the healing and magic plants provide.
A lifetime spent reading and exploring many fantastical worlds and years of outdoor adventures have nurtured a love of learning and a true joy in finding the intersections of the mundane and the magical. Rachel lives in the PNW with her partner and dog.
“But where our hearts truly lie is in peace and quiet and good tilled earth.”
